Okay, so this isn't a food post. This is my baby Branwen. Well, she's not actually a baby; she's rather elderly at a ripe 12 years old. She weighs all of 18 grams and could fit into a chicken egg with room to spare. Not much more than a bunch of feathers with a beak, she's nicknamed "Shark" by the vet for her wicked way of biting you with the tip of her beak. She'll give you a piece of her mind any time and has a variety of pitches and tones in her "meep" to let you know, even though "meep" is the only word in her vocabulary. But she's the sweetest little thing you'll ever meet. She takes baths like she was a fish in another life and turns into a fluffy pancake with squinty eyes if you whisper softly to her. She's not an vegetarian by any means -- she downs her meal worms like it's a lost art. But she's awesome. And she's one of the reasons I am vegan.

Awww she's so cute!
She really is a sweetheart. She always charms anyone who comes over to my place. It's the funniest thing, though, to see us arguing. See, when the spring rolls around she gets excited about laying eggs just like any other bird. Except that she's bonded to me and I am her "flock". And she's waaaay too old to be laying eggs. So she does her little dance for me (it doesn't matter one bit that I am human) and I wag my finger at her and get after her for it. It's literally a beak to finger argument -- she sits there and gives me heck for getting mad at her and my finger, mere millimeters away, wags back at her. I'm usually the one who backs down. Life with birds is pretty interesting :o)
seriously? you're my hero.
aww, this is so sweet! I grew up with a ton of birdies, from finches to english budgies...now I have my two little guinea pigs, well they're more on the plump side but still little to me :).
I really like your gluten-free recipes, a friend of mine is interested in finding more gluten-free recipes so I'll tell her about your blog :D.
Nice meeting you!
Sophie
So cute! I want one. Haha ok not really, birds scare me a bit, but I can appreciate adorable pictures like this one.
Aw, that is so adorable! I identify with what you're saying- my cats definitely help me see veganism in a much more immediate and clear light.
Anyway, this is my first visit to your blog in a while- I'm enjoying having you back!
